ARECS is a specialized ARES group that consists of volunteer amateur radio operators from the North Brevard Amateur Radio Club who dedicate their time and use of their equipment to provide Emergency Communications for local hospitals and governing agencies in the Mims / Titusville area during a disasters or a communication failure.
Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) is the nationwide public service and emergency communications arm of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), which is the largest national association of Amateur Radio enthusiasts. "ARES" Amateur Radio Emergency Service is a registered trade mark.
ARECS volunteers are certified for emergency Communications with background checks from the Brevard emergency management office.
The Mission of ARECS:
Is to serve our community and provide support to it’s governing agencies during a disaster. Examples of those agencies are the following:
Red Cross Shelters
Salvation Army
State wide emergency communications support
Hospital communications support
Forest fire communications support
Search and rescue
SKYWARN support for the National Weather Service
PORTABLE AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS STATION

NBARC
has added to its communications support 2 Portable Analog and D-Star Go-kits to
be used with Parrish Emergency Communications Center.
These Go-Kit can be taken when asked to go to a public service event which needs support with radio communications or use for emergency communications during Disasters, or Hurricanes.

Our certified EmComm operators are adding their own personal go-kits to be ready if a disaster strikes.
NBARC ARECS stands ready, around the clock, to provide Emergency Communications, to our hospitals and our served agencies in times of disaster or emergencies. Such situations include:
In a widespread disaster such as a forest fire, a major hurricane, a Tornadoes, mass casualties incident, a terrorist attack, or when hospitals or our served agencies need to communicate with each other and when the commercial phone system, cell towers are unavailable or unreliable.
Backup communications are vital. Patients and the public can be at risk in either case.
Certification:
ARECS members must be an ARES member, have a Brevard County background check, ARECC level 1 accreditation and FEMA IS 100 and 200 to run hurricane shelters.
We're Looking for Volunteers
ARECS, is looking for qualified volunteer Amateur Radio operators who wish to make a unique contribution to their communities in time of crisis and help staff the Hurricane Shelters.Prospective members should be interested in public service and be willing to make a commitment to the support their communities. They should have the necessary mobility to respond to an emergency situation whenever and wherever it might occur in Brevard County. Members must be resourceful at getting to the appropriate facility and a timely basis.
